Christmas Theme - 2005 |

Taken from the opening sentence of the Clement Moore book, "A Visit From St. Nicholas", the Richards DAR House Museum chose this as its theme for the 2005 Christmas Celebration.

The children were dreaming of sugar plums,

Mama was asleep in her kerchief, and Papa was peering out of the bedroom window.
The stockings were hung with care on the decorated marble mantels and vintage toys were arranged around a bedroom fireplace

| In the front parlor the twelve-foot Christmas tree was adorned with crocheted snowflakes and other handmade ornaments with vintage toys arranged around the base of the tree. |
| If
you look very closely at right side of the photo in
the fireplace, you can just about see Santa making his escape back up the
parlor chimney.
Guests were greeted by the famous Mobile Azalea Trail Maids. When a tour was complete guests were treated to tea and refreshments in the formal dining room while singers and musicians provided seasonal entertainment heard throughout the entire house. |

In the upper hall Santa handed out candy to children. He sat beside a tree decorated by local school children and was ably assisted by this beautiful Azalea Trail Maid |
Clariece Lilly and Sheila Shell chaired this prize-winning event.
Many thanks go to all of the members of the six Mobile Chapters who spent hours making all of the decorations and tree ornaments by hand. The vintage toys were borrowed from the Museum of Mobile and from the personal collections of DAR members
